What to check before buying

CPU socket and BIOS

The socket must match the processor, but that alone is not enough. Check the manufacturer's CPU support list and the minimum BIOS version for the exact processor.

Memory and expansion

Confirm DDR4 or DDR5 support, memory capacity, M.2 slot sharing, graphics-card slot layout and any extra cards you plan to install.

Board and case size

ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX boards require a compatible case. Also check internal headers, rear USB, networking and fan connections.
